Why We Built a 150+ Piece Maternity Wardrobe

When we first started photographing maternity sessions, we quickly realized that the dress could become one of the most stressful parts of the entire experience.

Pregnancy changes your body so quickly. Something you order today may fit completely differently several weeks from now. And something that looks incredible on a model online doesn’t necessarily photograph beautifully on every body.

After photographing so many expecting moms, we’ve also learned that a great maternity photography gown is very different from simply finding a pretty maternity dress.

We look at how the fabric moves, how it catches light, how it shapes the belly, where it falls on the body, what it does when we pose you and how it photographs from different angles.

So little by little—okay, maybe not that little 😂—our maternity closet grew.

Today, it has 150+ pieces ranging from timeless and elegant to romantic, glamorous, sexy and completely dramatic.

This Is Why We Have You Come In Before Your Photoshoot

We don’t want you choosing your maternity gown from a little picture on a website.

Before your session, we invite you into the studio for a Session Design Appointment, where we actually plan your photoshoot together.

This is when you get to try everything on.

We pull dresses based on your style, your body and the kind of portraits you love. Then we experiment.

And we want you to tell us the truth.

I love this.
I hate this.
I don’t want my arms showing.
I want to show my belly.
Absolutely no belly.
I want glamorous.
I want sexy.
I want timeless.

Perfect.

There is no maternity style you’re supposed to like.

Our job is to listen to what makes you feel comfortable and beautiful, then use our experience with wardrobe, lighting and posing to take it further.

And very often, we’ll ask you to try something you would never have picked for yourself.

If your husband, partner or children are joining your maternity session, we plan for them too.

We usually start with Mom.

Once we know what you’re wearing, it becomes much easier to coordinate everyone else so your family looks polished without looking like everyone was dressed from the same rack.

And because professional hair and makeup is part of our maternity experience, you don’t have to spend the morning driving around Orlando between appointments either.

You come to us.
